TAKING THE INITIATIVE
- Proactively get dozens and dozens of colleges involved.
- Communicate early and often with as many coaches as possible.
- There are benefits in consulting with a specialist who’s livelihood depends on their proper advice.
- As parents of a student-athlete, understand that time is NOT on your side. Receiving financial aid is not like holding the winning ticket in the Publisher’s Clearinghouse Sweepstakes.
- Resist the temptation to think college coaches are going to “discover” you because of your undeniable athletic talents.
- Receiving a letter, questionnaire or phone call from a college does NOT mean you are being recruited.
- You do NOT get to choose the school that makes you an offer.
THEY will choose you.
- Understand there are many places to play in several divisions at the college level. Limting yourself to NCAA D1 schools will find you watching the games from the bleachers.
